FAQ · Ready Set Groom

Questions, answered.

Everything people usually ask before their first mobile cat groom, from how often to book to what happens if your cat has been turned away somewhere else.

Before your visit

How often should my cat be groomed?

About every six weeks works for most cats, and a little more often for long-haired or heavy-shedding ones. Staying on a regular schedule is the easiest way to keep matting, skin trouble, and overgrown nails from ever becoming a problem. It's gentler on your cat than letting it all build up and sorting it out at once.

My cat is difficult. Other places have turned us away. Can you still help?

Yes, and these are often the cats we're best with. A cat that's been turned away somewhere else usually just needs someone who works with cats all day and won't rush them. We can normally tell in the first few minutes whether your cat can be handled safely, and most can.

Our Comfort Groom is made for exactly these cats, the matted, the anxious, the ones who are simply done with the whole idea. We take it slow, and we do it right in front of your home, so even the hardest cases get through it.

What should I do to get ready?

Not much, and that's the idea. We'll text you about 15 minutes before we arrive, so all you need to do is have your cat in a carrier, ready to go. When we get there, you're welcome to carry your cat out to the van yourself if you like.

During the groom

Will you sedate my cat?

No. Very few cats actually need to be sedated for a groom, and the way we handle each one is meant to keep it from ever coming to that. If we did think your cat would be more comfortable with a mild sedative, we'd send you to your vet to arrange it ahead of time.

Will grooming hurt my cat?

It's going ungroomed that tends to hurt. Cats who don't get groomed are prone to heavy matting, skin problems, and painful ingrown nails, and that adds up over time. A regular groom heads all of that off, and because we have hands on your cat every visit, we often catch small things early while they're still easy to deal with.

Do cats actually tolerate a bath?

Most do, usually better than their owners expect. A lot of cats actually settle once they get used to it. We ease each one into the bath slowly instead of forcing it, and we hear all the time that they come home calm and happy.

How long does it take?

Usually about an hour to an hour and a half for one cat. It can run a little longer if your cat is badly matted or there's more than one to do. We keep things moving, not because we're rushing, but because cats are happiest back home in their own routine.

Payment and policies

How does pricing work?

Most grooms are priced by your cat's size and coat, and you'll see the price when you book. Heavily matted, especially anxious, or senior cats take more time and are quoted on the day, so the price always matches the work.

Is there a travel fee?

For most of our area there's no travel fee. If you're within about 30 minutes of our home base near Hickory, travel is included. A little farther out it's a $30 fee, and for South Carolina and the Winston-Salem area it's $50. You'll always see any travel fee when you book, so there are no surprises.

How do I book and pay?

Booking is online through our scheduling system, anytime. Pick a date that works and we'll bring the whole salon to your door. We accept cash, Zelle, check, Apple Pay, Venmo, and credit cards.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
